What is Halyard Health?

Halyard Health, formerly Kimberly-Clark Health Care, is a medical manufacturing company with 12,000 employees worldwide. Kimberly-Clark started their journey way back in 1872 in Neenah, Wisconsin. The first product they produced was absorbent wadding that they intended as a replacement for cotton. The U.S. Army used their absorbent wadding to treat soldiers in World War I. Later, Army nurses adapted the material for menstrual use.

The company, based in Alpharetta, Georgia, grew until it was selling products in 150 countries with offices established all over the world. In 2013, the company separated its healthcare business. This became Halyard Health, a publicly traded company with approximately $1.6 billion in annual net sales. When this happened, Halyard established a headquarters in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Halyard strives to be a diverse and welcoming company to employees. They also work to do good in the world with their innovative products.

“When people are healthy they not only live longer, they live better – and do more,” says President and CEO Robert Abernathy. “The investment we make in better care today will result in a better, healthier tomorrow.”

Halyard Health’s Good Works Around the World

In 2013 and 14, Kimberly-Clark Health Care won the Practice Greenhealth Champion for Change Award. The award recognizes healthcare businesses who take steps to “go green.”

“It is a great honor for Kimberly-Clark Health Care to be recognized for our excellence in sustainability practices for a second year,” said Chris Lowery, Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing, after their second award. “We are privileged to have a dedicated team at Kimberly-Clark Health Care who demonstrate their commitment to greening our organization and assist others in improving their environmental performance.”

“At Kimberly-Clark Health Care, we pride ourselves on helping our customers balance their environmental, social and economic impact while taking care of patients,” the company’s Global Sustainability Leader, Jane Hart, said. “This award recognition sheds light on the achievement of our goal to make sustainability a part of the way we operate. It also highlights our commitment to collaborate with customers and other industry suppliers to create a healthier future for all.”

In 2015, Halyard Health contributed $400,000 in medical supplies to the Nepal earthquake recovery effort.

“Our hearts go out to the citizens of Nepal during this very difficult time,” chairman and CEO, Robert Abernathy, said at the time. “At Halyard, our mission is to advance health and healthcare by preventing infection, eliminating pain and speeding recovery. We are pleased to be a long-time partner with a great organization like MedShare and to help make a real difference where and when it matters most.”

Halyard Health Professional Health Products

Halyard’s digestive products are second to none. Their low-profile MIC-KEY feeding tubes serve as a great alternative to more cumbersome standard feeding tubes. As the name suggests, they are easily concealable compared to standard tubes, which hang six to eight inches off the stomach. Instead, they rest at skin level, making them easy to conceal under clothing.

Also, the short internal length and diameter size makes blockages less likely. Patients attach tubing to make feeding easier. But when the tubes are not in use, the MIC-KEY is covered with a cap to prevent stomach contents from leaking.

Doctors recommend these tubes to patients struggling to maintain proper weight. This includes ALS patients who are struggling to maintain the proper caloric intake.

However, this is just one of Halyard Health’s innovative professional health products aimed at ensuring that patients are healthy and happy. They also offer a number of other feeding tubes, diagnostic tools, paracentesis kits and trays, stoma measuring devices, and drainage systems.
